MINUTES OF MEETING
August 8, 2002

Janice VandeBogart, Town Administrator
J. R. Swindlehurst was unable to attend because he is attending classes.
7:00 PM
It was noted for the record that the office had received a call from Louise Hannon from the State Health Department, reporting that a dead bird found in Goffstown had tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
7:30PM Jan VandeBogart, Road Agent: The Road Agent reported that paving would be starting on Monday, August 12, 2002 on Black Brook Road. They will be moving on to the Gorham Pond area, (Holiday Shore Dive, Stephanie Road, and Garry Road) on Tuesday. There was a discussion regarding the culvert on Holiday Shore Drive. The Road Agent stated that the culvert would need work in the future but he did not want to hold up paving in the whole area for one culvert. When it was necessary, he would take care of the culvert and patch that area but this would not need to be done right away.
Devil Steps Road was also discussed. Jan stated that this was a state road, given to the town when the new Route 77 was built, which made it a 22 ft. wide road. He did not want to pave it the full width, only about 18ft. The Selectmen agreed, said to keep it narrow, only needed to pave where plowed.
Holmes Road: Jan asked if the Selectmen wanted to pave up to Mi\chael’s driveway or further. The Selectmen stated that they wanted only Holmes Road paved which would bring the paving up to but not including Mr. Michael’s driveway. Also, only up to Jim Marcou’s driveway as well.
Powell Lane: Needed to be paved where it joins Route 13. This had been torn up by plowing.
Ordway Road: The Road Agent brought the Selectmen up to date on work progress on Ordway Road. He had run into some ledge. He rented an excavator with a hydraulic hammer instead of blasting. Blasting the ledge would have made more of a mess, cost more and the neighbors did not want blasting. This machine is working out well. This road would stay gravel.
Plow for new Town Truck: The Road Agent presented the Selectmen with two estimates for a new snow plow and frame for the new one ton town truck. Diesel Don’s bid was $3,661 and Donovan Equipment was $3,470. He is waiting for another estimated from Sleeper which will be in next week. He will report back to the board.
8:00 PM Jon Wiggin, Fire Chief: The Fire Chief stated that he had received a letter from the Weare Fire Department for Mutual Aid. He asked the Selectmen to sign the letter and they did so.
The Fire Chief reported that the Fire Department had been on a list at Federal Surplus for a used pickup truck. One is available now. This pickup would replace one of the old Forestry trucks, (the department would keep the best of the two) and that old truck would be turned back to the state. The new truck is a Chevy diesel, 6.2 liter, 4x4, no rust. The cost of the truck would be $1500. The Fire Department budget has $1500 in their equipment line that could be used. Jon stated that they would use equipment off the old forestry truck and that the Firefighters Association, who raise money with the chicken barbecue and other fund raisers, would donate $2500 of their money to help with the rest of the equipment needed for the truck. The Board of Selectmen gave their approval.
The Selectmen invited the Fire Chief to attend the next Planning Board meeting scheduled for August 21, 2002 because of the number of subdivisions that are on the agenda. He agreed.
8:45 pm Les Hammond made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Chuck Graybill. All in favor.
