January 16, 1997 Meeting

This meeting is to discuss the information
gathered by the software vendors and the neighboring
towns as well as to come up with an initial budget
request for the hardware and software to run the town.
Also, a preliminary design document will be discussed.

Discussion
The meeting began at 7:00 PM.
Update on Software Vendors
The only major update on the software vendors is that
the BDS software will run in a Windows environment and
does not require a UNIX environment.
Update on Town's Interviewed
The following town's were interviewed regarding what
software they use and their impressions of it:
Swanzey, NH - Beth Fox, Administrative Assistant
Population: 6530
Town Clerk software: BMSI
Tax Collector software: BMSI
Assessor software: Programs from Vision Appraisal out of
Northborough, MA.
Building Inspector: (unknown)
Selectmen: (unknown)
System Configuration: 1 server with 5 clients, Novell
NetWare version 3.12, only 1 client runs Windows, the
rest are DOS-based only for the BMSI software. No public
PC yet; looking into it. DataSoft for tapes. Okidata dot
matrix printer, Epson dot matrix printer, HP5M
double-sided printing laser printer.
Budget: $1500 per year (initially)

System Configuration: Novell NetWare version 3.12 server,
2 clients, 1 standalone PC with Windows, WordPerfect, and
Q&A. 2 Lexmark 2380 Plus dot matrix printers, 1 HP
laser printer.
Budget: Unknown
Newbury, NH - Linda Champy, Town Clerk/Tax Collector
& Dennis Pavlicek, Town Administrator
Population: 1500
Town Clerk software: Not automated
Tax Collector software: BDS
Assessor software: BDS for tax accouts; BMSI for fund
accouting and payroll
Building Inspector: Not automated
Selectmen: Accesses both programs above
System Configuration: 1 server running Novell NetWare, 4
clients running Windows 3.11, WordPerfect 6.1, Lotus
prgrams, Print Shop program. Tax collector has own
printer, selectmen have a printer, all have access to HP
LaserJet II. Also a new color printer. Tax bills are
printed on selectmen's printer. They contract with
Competitive Computers in Clarement, NH when needed (for
system work).
Budget: Line item for 1997 is $500, BMSI is $900
Dunbarton Computer Needs
A detailed breakdown of the proposed hardware,
software, support costs, etc. for the town was discussed
to be presented to the selectmen.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
Meeting With Selectmen
At 8:10 PM a meeting with the selectmen started. They
were presented a budget estimate for automating the town
offices. The selectmen would like a one page breakdown of
the costs.

request for selectmen.

with selectmen to further discuss budget request.
