MEMBERS ABSENT: Rick Kiah, Matt Lavey
MINUTES:
May’s minutes were accepted with the following amendments:
Under “PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING UPGRADES TO THE SCENIC ROAD OF GILE HILL”, the last paragraph should state that the vote on the motion was 5 in favor and 4 against. The dissenting voters want recorded their belief that as a dirt road, 18’ is safer than 22’, a claim that is substantiated by national standards for dirt roads. They also believe that a 22’ wide road is contrary to the original intent of Dunbarton’s scenic roads vote. All the roads identified in that article were narrow, dirt roads that captured the historic feel of Dunbarton.
Under “Gating of Legache Hill Road”, last paragraph, add
“both ends of ”
OLD BUSINESS:
Erosion problem on
Stan Sowle reported that work is nearly completed on the right of way owned by National Grid. The subcontractor hired by them to remediate erosion damage has installed a number of water bars to slow the flow of water down the access road.
Tasks to be started/completed in 2005
Larry Cook revisited the Commission’s priorities and asked which members would like to take the lead in order to complete some of the work ahead.
NEW BUSINESS:
Kimball Pond Conservation Area (KPCA) as “geocache” site
Nick Holmes discussed “geocaching”, a “sport” or “hobby” where people first obtain coordinates on a web site and then attempt to locate the “cache” left at the designated point. The “cache” is an assortment of items left in a container which can be anything from a Tupperware dish to an ammunitions box.
Margaret Watkins made a motion to allow Nick and Mike Shearin to set out a “cache” in the KPCA with the understanding that they let a member of the Commission know where the “cache” will be hidden. George Holt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
NEXT MEETING:
Note: Members present agreed not to hold a meeting in July but to meet in August as usual.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED: Darlene M. Jarvis
