DATE: August 11, 2004

MEMBERS PRESENT: Brett St. Clair, Darlene Jarvis, George Holt, Ron Jarvis, Matt Lavey, Margaret Watkins

Also Rick Kiah, Mel Gendron, Mark Wamser

MEMBERS ABSENT: Larry Cook

Conservation Commission members met with the Master Planning sub-committee on Natural Resources

Steve Lopez of NH Regional Planning Commission queried those present as to what are the important natural resources in town and what do we want the town to look like in ten years.  Concerns voiced included protection of upland buffers around water bodies, protecting streams from road runoff, updating the maps on which the Wetland Conservation District is based, encouraging preservation through conservation easements, allocating 100% of the current use change tax to the conservation fund, and striving to collect the town’s actual share of tax money from timber cuts.

OLD BUSINESS:

Milfoil

Brett St. Clair stated that there are 2 companies licensed to chemically treat water bodies for milfoil.  He will ask both for 2 estimates, one to treat the east side only and one to treat the pond’s total acreage.  DES recommends treatment every 2 to 3 years.

Signs

Matt Lavey has received 24 signs ordered for the Kimball Pond Conservation Area.  Members present agreed that 20 “Scenic Road” signs should be ordered and installed along scenic roads to increase awareness.

Status of local projects/Wetland Bureau updates

NH Traditional Homes (Montelona Road/long access) - Wetland Bureau has asked the applicant for more information

Sanchez (Old Hopkinton Road/creation of wildlife pond) - Margaret Watkins drafted a response recommending an alternate location
